Girl Child Day: NGOs Empower Girls on Literacy Skills

Girl Child Development Hub, (GCDH) an NGO that focuses on the empowerment and education of the girl child, partnered  with Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige, in facilitating a literacy clinic on Tuesday, October 11th  in the commemoration of International Day of the Girl Child 2022 themed “our time is now- our rights, our future.”

 The  session which was held at Oba Akinbiyi Model College Il sought to empower the girl child on the need to acquire literacy  skills.  According to  Miss Gloria Oladeji, the founder of Girl Child Development Hub (GCDH), every girl child deserves the right to quality education, ability to read, write and speak well. She averred that with the acquisition of communication skills, among others, a girl child can speak, stand up for her right and be the great lady she desires to be.

 

Also,  Mrs. Ifeoluwa Aduradola of Onkawe Book Club spoke to the girls on the indispensability of  literacy education and the various effective ways to develop the mind and build good communication skills. She encouraged them to develop the habits of reading and how gaining knowledge from reading widely can be of great benefits to them.

The girls were further trained on  public speaking by the TVO tribe where they were grouped; each group having a facilitator for close interaction. They were similarly given educational books by Accesible publishers as a way of boosting their reading culture.

 

Rotarian Ajibike also engaged the girls on health literacy where she taught them  the knowledge and practices of menstrual hygiene.

 

In an  appreciative commentary, Mrs. Ayodele Folashade Oluwatoyin, the school principal gave kudos to the organizers for  coming up with such an enlightening program.

Miss Oladeji also expressed gratitude to all partners/sponsors on behalf of the GCDH team including the Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige (headline sponsor of the program), The Onkawe Book Club, TVO Tribe, The accessible publishers, Dafeod Concept and Sumal Foods for their great support in ensuring the success of the program.
