Samsung was the first brand to launch a phone with an in-display camera, the Galaxy A8s while Huawei adapted this design which it features on the Huawei Nova 4. Both phones are latest additions to the range of smartphones released this year however their innovative look will attract the interest of other smartphone makers. Before the in-display feature becomes a trend let’s compare the earlier mentioned devices and see which one offers the best services.

Huawei Nova 4 vs Samsung Galaxy A8s – Design & Display

Concerning the display, both devices share some similarities and differences. First, the Huawei Nova 4 comes with a 6.4-inch display with a pinhole cut-out which houses the camera placed on the left side. A centrally positioned fingerprint scanner and a triple camera setup with an LED flash lie at the rear panel.

Notably, the Samsung Galaxy A8s also has a 6.4-inch screen with the same circular cut-out and even a triple camera with a flash and finger sensor at the back of the phone.

As for the Galaxy A8s which is powered by a Snapdragon 710 SoC, it features an octa-core processor with a speed of 2.2 GHz and also works with an Adreno 616 GPU.

Both phones have 8GB RAM and 128GB worth of internal storage expandable to 512GB via MicroSD cards. However, the Samsung Galaxy A8s has a version that comes with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal memory.

The Nova 4 and the Galaxy A8s run on this year’s released Andriod 9.0 Pie based on the EMUI and Samsung Experience Skins respectively.

Let’s begin with the in-display camera on both products. Interestingly both phones feature a 20MP camera with f/2.0 aperture which can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps, but the back panels tell a different story.

The Huawei Nova 4 offers a triple camera setup which consists of a 48MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a secondary 16MP camera with f/2.2 opening and 2MP depth sensor camera with a f/2.4 opening. The cameras have an LED flash and have the ability to shoot both 4k or 1080p videos at 30fps

Although the Samsung Galaxy A8s has a similar triple camera setup, it varies with the Nova 4 by including a 24MP primary shooter with a f/1.7 aperture, a secondary 10MP camera with autofocus and a 5MP depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The cameras have an LED flash and can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps.

Huawei Nova 4 vs Samsung Galaxy A8s: Battery & Connectivity

A 3,750mAh battery embedded battery powers the Huawei Nova 4 while the Samsung Galaxy A8s has to make do with an inbuilt battery with a lesser capacity of 3400mAh. Both phones support fast charging.

Regarding connectivity, both products support 4G LTE and most WiFi standards including WiFi Direct and Wifi Hotspot. However, they have different Bluetooth versions with the Galaxy A8s featuring Bluetooth v5.0 and the Nova 4 having the Bluetooth v4.2.

Both devices feature a Micro USB 2.0 port for data transfer and charging. The Huawei Nova 4 has an audio jack while the Galaxy A8s does not have one.
